E-commerce website creation: help customers choose, order and pay

A shop should explain the product, display the right options and send your team an order they can fulfil. Gloria prepares your catalogue and purchasing journey with you, then tests payment, stock and delivery within the selected scope. The project is assessed through orders, their margin and the work required to process them.

  • Present the characteristics that help customers choose the right product and variant.
  • Show the total price, availability and delivery conditions before payment.
  • Receive orders your team can prepare, track and compare with their actual costs.

Content and functionality

Study your products, competing shops and buyers’ searches

The first task focuses on what you actually sell: product families, uses, margins, availability, shipping options and pre-purchase questions. A profitable product that is difficult to transport should not be presented like a standard item available immediately. We identify the product families to launch first, missing information and orders you are ready to fulfil.

The benchmark compares competing shops and relevant purchasing journeys: variant selection, photo detail, dimension explanations, total price and handling of unavailable items. We identify choices to examine without reproducing their copy or designs. Examples you like provide discussion points; they do not replace your catalogue’s constraints.

Keyword research then starts with products and their uses. For handmade tableware, “250 ml stoneware cup”, “ceramic gift” and “professional restaurant tableware” reflect different expectations. These are avenues to verify, not claimed search volumes. We propose categories and product pages suited to relevant searches, taking available data and actual competition into account.

You approve the structure, launch products and content to prepare. The quote specifies the study’s scope: markets, languages and catalogue depth.

Content and functionality

Choose the platform according to variants, stock and tools to connect

Shopify, WooCommerce, PrestaShop or another solution can be considered. The choice must let your team complete routine tasks: create an item, correct stock, handle a return or export orders. We test these uses on representative products before selecting a platform and its extensions.

The quote distinguishes standard functionality from a particular business rule. A colour and size raise different questions from pricing by the metre, personalisation with a preview or negotiated customer pricing. Exact capabilities depend on the solution, version and subscribed services.

Four decisions to make before developing the shop
NeedDecision to documentPossible consequence
Stock shared with a physical shopWhich tool is the source of truth, and when does it synchronise?Connection to point-of-sale or stock software
Customisable productWhich options change the price or lead time?Configurator and specific checks
Selling to businessesPublic prices, account-specific rates or a quote first?Accounts, access permissions and commercial rules
Selling in several countriesWhich catalogues, languages, payments and shipping arrangements?Additional configuration and validation

If you already have a shop, transferring products, authorised customer data and old URLs is prepared through a migration project. A software connection requires separate checks; it is not assumed to work simply because two tools advertise an API.

Content and functionality

Prepare a product file that prevents pricing, variant and availability errors

You supply accurate catalogue data: product codes, prices, characteristics, weights, usable photographs, stock and commercial terms. We define the import or entry format and information to display. Writing assistance can make a page easier to understand; it must not invent composition, certification or compatibility absent from the supplied data.

A small sample allows the model to be checked before processing the whole catalogue. It includes a simple item, a variant, an unavailable item and a product with a shipping constraint. Where possible, errors are corrected at source to prevent their return in the next import.

The number of product pages matters less than data quality and the complexity of transforming it. A clean file makes transferring many items easier; a few poorly defined products may require more decisions.

Content and functionality

Example: sell ceramics without uncertainty about size or delivery

Atelier Rivage is a fictional shop used to explain our design choices. It sells stoneware cups in sets of two. An attractive photograph alone does not explain capacity, differences between finishes or the quantity supplied. The product page should therefore show the item in use, a detailed view and its dimensions, with a clear indication of the unit sold.

Selecting a finish must change the item actually ordered

The visitor selects “sand” or “slate”. The corresponding photograph appears with that variant’s availability. The basket repeats the name, finish and number of sets. If a finish is unavailable, the journey does not allow payment for an item the workshop can neither ship nor make within the stated lead time.

The page distinguishes preparation time from shipping time. Handmade variations are explained precisely, without becoming a blanket excuse for every difference. Return conditions and a way to report a damaged parcel are accessible. The exact wording is approved by the business according to its products and obligations; the website does not invent its commercial commitments.

Acceptance testing involves ordering two sets in one finish, changing the quantity, then checking the summary and received order. This demonstration is neither a client reference nor a sales forecast. It shows how to prevent a misunderstanding that could result in a support request, cancellation or return.

Content and functionality

Example: sell to restaurants while retaining quotes for large quantities

In a second fictional scenario, a supplier sells tableware to restaurants. Reordering twelve plates can follow a standard purchase. Equipping an entire dining room may require confirmed availability, specific transport and negotiated pricing. Forcing both requests through the same journey would complicate matters for buyer and seller.

We can provide direct purchasing for eligible items and quote requests for a particular assortment or quantity. The customer supplies item codes, quantities, destination and preferred date. A “Request a quote for this selection” button accurately explains the next step; it does not simulate a stock reservation.

The quote request retains the selected items until sales processing

The planning deliverable specifies the rules: when to display each action, what data to send, who receives the request and how the salesperson records their response. If a CRM is connected, checks must confirm that resubmitting does not create several identical opportunities and that a connection error does not lose the selection.

Private prices require permissions checked on the server. Hiding a price in the interface is not enough to protect a customer’s terms. A trade area, account approval and reordering from history are functions to quote separately: they are not automatically included in a standard shop.

Content and functionality

Organise categories and product pages to make the catalogue accessible to Google

SEO begins with a clear catalogue. Categories address a genuine comparison need and lead to corresponding products. Product pages describe what helps customers choose: dimensions, use, compatibility, care or parcel contents, depending on your offer. Adding a generic paragraph to every item does not provide that specificity.

URLs, internal links, canonical addresses and the sitemap must remain consistent. Variants, filters and sorting are examined to avoid unnecessarily multiplying addresses showing the same content. These checks follow, among other references, Google’s recommendations on e-commerce URLs.

Product structured data, where included and relevant, must match visible information: prices, availability and variants. It guarantees neither rich results nor rankings. Google’s documentation on e-commerce structured data provides a reference for the relevant checks.

A temporarily unavailable product and a permanently discontinued item require different decisions. We prepare these cases with you, along with the handling of important old URLs. Ongoing acquisition, merchant feeds and new content production remain services to define in addition to website creation.

Content and functionality

Test a complete order, declined payment and stock change

Validation covers documented scenarios on phones and computers. A test-mode transaction checks the journey without taking an actual payment. Any necessary additional live check is agreed with you, with payment-provider charges identified separately.

  • Choose a variant, change the quantity and find the same details at payment.
  • Check a deliverable destination, then an address outside the supported areas.
  • Try accepted, declined and interrupted payments without incorrectly displaying an order as paid.
  • Check recording, stock and notifications against the selected rules.
  • Test the refund or cancellation process provided in administration.

We use a suitable payment provider; the project does not involve storing card numbers on your website. Administration access is individual and restricted to necessary tasks. Forms are validated server-side, protected against abusive submissions and limited to useful data. HTTPS encryption does not remove the need for these checks.

The acceptance-test record states the expected result, observation and outstanding corrections. You also approve commercial information and settings specific to your situation. Requirements relevant to your markets, accessibility and personal data are identified during planning, together with necessary validations: technical delivery is not a general certificate of compliance.

Content and functionality

Track retained orders, their margin and processing time

The monitoring dashboard reconciles recorded purchases, orders actually paid, cancellations and refunds. We define events and their checks before launch. Clicking “Pay” does not equal a sale, and the same transaction must not be counted more than once.

Contribution margin is more useful than total sales alone when deciding where to invest. Entirely fictional example: 40 retained orders at €75 excluding VAT represent €3,000 excluding VAT. After €1,600 in products, €320 in preparation, shipping and payment costs, then €400 in acquisition, €680 remains before other expenses and the website’s cost. Specify which items are included and avoid counting a return or charge twice.

This calculation is not demonstrated ROI. To evaluate the project, we identify additional gains reasonably attributable to the shop, then deduct its costs over the same period: implementation, subscriptions, maintenance and management time. Sales already taking place by phone should be distinguished as far as the data allows.

Also track preparation errors, time spent on each order and reasons for contacting after-sales support. A better product page may primarily reduce questions or incorrect selections. Our measurement and management service can organise this review; no monitoring subscription is implicitly included in website creation.

Budget for implementation, platform fees and post-launch management

The standard e-commerce package is €990 excluding VAT, within the scope described in Gloria’s pricing. The quote specifies catalogue, features, supplied data and acceptance testing. Advanced personalisation, complex transfers or synchronisation with your software are quoted separately. Page count alone does not trigger an automatic surcharge.

Allow for any platform, extension, payment, hosting and maintenance fees. You register, pay for and renew your domain through your own account; Gloria can make the initial connection. Hosting can be provided under a defined option. Backup and update responsibilities are documented before delivery.

Handover includes the agreed access and instructions needed for the delivered scope. We have you check a representative task: editing a product page, processing an order or correcting availability. To prepare your enquiry, provide a few products, shipping countries, current tools and essential features. Credentials will be exchanged through an appropriate channel.

Practical questions

Questions about the catalogue, payment and running the shop

Can we launch a few product families and complete the catalogue later?

Yes. An initial version can focus on an assortment ready to sell and ship. We prepare a structure that supports the planned additions without publishing empty categories in the meantime. Subsequent work will depend primarily on data quality and new functions, not an automatic per-page fee.

Can you transfer my Shopify, WooCommerce or PrestaShop product pages?

The transfer is assessed using an export and representative products. We check variants, images, stock, identifiers and links before quoting. Orders, accounts and subscriptions do not always transfer in the same way as products. The migration scope specifies what can be retained and what must be reconfigured.

Are payment and platform subscriptions included in the €990 excluding VAT?

The €990 excluding VAT covers the standard implementation defined in the quote. Third-party subscriptions and commissions remain separate, as do hosting and maintenance according to the selected option. The quote should make both the creation cost and foreseeable operating expenses understandable.

Can product copy and photographs be created using AI?

AI can help structure or rephrase reliable information. You approve characteristics, uses and claims. Images of an actual product for sale must faithfully represent its details: a generated image must not invent a finish, accessory or dimension. Photo preparation and usage rights are specified during planning.
